Frequently asked questions
Everything about how Call Japan works: plans, refunds, the calls we make and the ones we don't.
About the service
Call Japan is an English-speaking phone concierge for Japan. You message us on WhatsApp in English, and a Japanese-speaking member of our team calls the restaurant, clinic, courier, office or venue for you, then sends you the result in English. Plans start at $9 per request.
Yes, that's exactly what we do. Send us the business name or link and what you need. We make the call in Japanese and send you a clear written answer, booking confirmation or update on WhatsApp.
Yes. Many travelers book restaurants, check onsen rules or arrange luggage weeks before they fly. All you need is WhatsApp.
English for now. You write to us in English, we call in Japanese and reply in English.
Call Japan is run by MOCHIRON Co., Ltd., a company in Beppu, Oita, the same team behind Print Japan, which helps international exhibitors print in Japan in English.
No. We always explain that we're calling from Call Japan on behalf of our customer, and we give your name for any booking.
Plans & payment
One rule: if you just need to know something, it's Ask ($9). If something needs to be booked, arranged or held in your name (usually with a Japanese phone number), it's Book ($17). If it needs several calls, callbacks or businesses, it's Handle ($29). Not sure? Message us and we'll tell you before you pay.
Neither. It's one fixed price per request. Ask includes up to 3 call attempts, Book covers the booking plus one later change or cancellation, and Handle covers unlimited calls on one case for 7 days.
Often the business asks for one. With Book and Handle, we give our Japanese phone number as the contact, take any callbacks and pass every message to you on WhatsApp.
Once we've confirmed the plan in WhatsApp, we send a secure card payment link sent in WhatsApp. We start as soon as it's paid.
We ask before changing anything. If it needs a bigger plan you only pay the difference, and if it fits a smaller plan we tell you.
Refunds & cancellations
You get a full refund. If we can't reach the business, can't get your answer or can't secure your booking, we refund 100% the same day. You never pay for trying.
For Ask, yes: a clear answer is a result even if it's "no" (for example, "they don't allow tattoos"). For Book, if none of your options can be booked, that's no result and you get a full refund.
Yes. Cancel any time before we make the call and you get a full refund. After a booking is made, Book includes one free change or cancellation call. The business's own cancellation fees, if any, are between you and them, we always tell you about them before booking.
Calls we make
We reply on WhatsApp usually within 15 minutes during service hours (9:00–20:00 JST, 7 days a week). Most calls are made the same day, but the business's own opening hours can affect timing; we'll tell you when we expect an answer.
The business name and phone number or link, what you need, your preferred dates and times (plus backups), the name for any booking, and anything they should know such as allergies or accessibility needs.
Yes. We can ask whether they see English speakers, check hours and what to bring, and book an appointment. We don't give medical advice or interpret during your consultation.
Call 119 for an ambulance or fire, or 110 for the police, straight away, don't wait for us. Visitors can also call the Japan Visitor Hotline run by the Japan National Tourism Organization (050-3816-2787, 24 hours) for help in English.
Not new bookings: in Japan, arranging accommodation and transport for a fee requires a registered travel agency. But we can call a hotel or ryokan you've already booked to confirm details, ask about early luggage drop-off, tell them you'll arrive late or pass on dietary needs.
We can't give card details or pay on your behalf. If a place needs a deposit, we'll tell you and send you their booking link or instructions.
Yes, with the Ask plan. We pass on your message warmly and bring back their reply. We only call people who know you, we don't search for people or make unwanted calls.
Not live. We make the call for you and report back in writing, and we can relay messages in both directions.
Yes. And if it's printing for a trade show or event, our sister service Print Japan can handle the whole job in English, business cards, flyers, banners and booth graphics.
Business & events
We make the Japanese calls exhibitors get stuck on: venue delivery and loading times, booth contractors, couriers, hotels, supplier meetings and group dinners. See /for/business-events.
Living in Japan
Yes. We can report a problem, chase the callbacks and book a repair visit. We don't handle rent negotiations, deposit disputes or complaints against your landlord or neighbours.
No. These need the account holder's identity checked, so you have to do them yourself. We can call to ask what documents you'll need and whether it can be done online.
Privacy & limits
We use your details only to complete your request, never sell them, and keep them only as long as needed. See our Privacy Policy.
Emergencies (call 119 or 110), new hotel, flight, train or tour bookings, legal disputes or negotiations, anything that needs your identity verified, paying or giving card details for you, and calls to people who don't know you.
